HITN Media has launched a new special examining one of the most complicated questions facing parents today: how young children can have a healthy relationship with screens.

Children and Screen Time, produced by HITN’s preschool streaming platform Edye and its health and wellness platform Vida y Salud, brings together pediatric and child-development experts to discuss how digital media can affect preschool-age children and how families can make informed choices.

Hosted by journalist Nathalia Ortiz, the program features a conversation with Nidsy Mejía Roque, a developmental and behavioral pediatrician and member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Fernanda Lucchese-Lobato, a child neuropsychologist. The discussion also draws on expert perspectives from Thresia Gambon, a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics; Matías Dodel, a professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the Catholic University of Uruguay; and Lina Acosta Sandaal, a psychotherapist and child-development specialist who founded Stop Parenting Alone and directs KLA Academy in Miami. Public-opinion interviews were conducted by blogger Mariela Irala.

Rather than focusing solely on how many minutes children spend in front of a screen, the program looks at the quality and context of their digital experiences, echoing guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics. It also seeks to offer practical information without placing blame on parents navigating an increasingly digital world.

The special is the first in a series of initiatives HITN Media is developing around healthy screen use and child development.

“We want to lead this conversation, raise awareness about an issue of vital importance and empower parents to make decisions that benefit their children,” said Guillermo Sierra, executive vice president of HITN Media.

Through the collaboration of HITN, Vida y Salud and Edye, the network aims to provide Spanish-speaking families with reliable information on health, wellness and early childhood development. Children and Screen Time is available free on HITNGo.
