HITN joined the Mexican Consulate in New York for its annual Independence Day celebration in Sunset Park, bringing together residents, community organizations, local businesses and media outlets for an afternoon of music, dance and Mexican traditions.

The celebration, held as Hispanic Heritage Month got underway, drew a large crowd, with many Mexican families arriving early to enjoy traditional food, local vendors and cultural activities. Businesses and media organizations also participated, sharing products, services and information with attendees.

The centerpiece of the festivities was the traditional “Grito de Independencia,” led by Mexico’s Consul General in New York, Marcos Bucio. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also delivered remarks to the crowd.

The program featured performances by musicians and folkloric dance groups. Mexican-born broadcasters Ana Patricia Candiani and Lulú Gómez hosted the first portion of the event, while comedian Carlos Eduardo Rico and Amiel Tena took over as hosts for the second part of the celebration.

HITN’s Community Affairs team attended the event to connect with members of New York’s Mexican community and share information about the network’s Spanish-language educational and entertainment programming.

The celebration was part of a series of events organized around Mexico’s Independence Day in the New York metropolitan area.
