HITN President & CEO Michael D. Nieves was among the community leaders on hand for the ribbon-cutting of Community Counseling & Mediation’s (CCM) new Bond Street Clinic—the nonprofit’s facility devoted to the mental-health needs of children, adolescents, and young adults.

CCM, a Brooklyn-based behavioral-health provider founded in 1982, serves more than 60,000 people a year across Brooklyn and Manhattan. Its programs address the root causes of mental illness and substance-use disorders while connecting families to social-service supports.

“This clinic is for the young New Yorkers who will walk through these doors and discover a pathway to their full potential,” CCM President & CEO Douglas Brooks said. “With the community’s support we are opening our sixth mental-health clinic—and the first purpose-built for children, teenagers and their families.”

Elected officials and agency leaders—including U.S. Rep. Dan Goldman, New York State Office of Mental Health Commissioner Ann Marie Sullivan, and New York City Deputy Mayor of Strategic Initiatives Ana J. Almanzar—praised the expansion. According to CCM, Brooklyn records some of the state’s highest suicide-attempt rates among Latina teens, while youth anxiety and depression have climbed nationwide since the pandemic.

The Bond Street Clinic will offer counseling, family therapy, psychiatric services and wrap-around supports aimed at historically underserved communities.
