Representatives from HITN took part in a community health fair organized by Special Olympics Puerto Rico (SOPR), bringing preventive medical services to hundreds of persons and families in southern Puerto Rico.
The event, known as Healthy Athletes, was held at the Complejo Ferial de Ponce as part of the organization’s Healthy Communities initiative. According to Special Olympics Puerto Rico, this marked the first time all eight medical disciplines in the Healthy Athletes program were offered at a single event on the island.
Attendance exceeded expectations, with organizers reporting 1,077 preventive health screenings, a record for the program. By comparison, last year’s event in Caguas provided 589 screenings.
Participants received services in podiatry, physical therapy, audiology, general medicine, psychology, nutrition, dentistry and optometry through the program’s specialized clinics.
HITN said its involvement reflects the network’s broader commitment to supporting the health and well-being of Hispanic communities through educational and community outreach initiatives.
