As part of the festivities kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month, HITN took part in the celebration of Mexico’s Independence ‘Grito’ held in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

The event drew a large crowd from the Mexican community, which filled the park’s lawns early in the day. Local businesses were also on hand, offering traditional Mexican food and products.
City and Mexican officials, along with special guests, joined the festivities and shared in the much-anticipated moment when Mexico’s Consul General in New York, Marcos Bucio, led the traditional “Grito de Independencia.”

The program was hosted by Mexican-born broadcasters Ana Patricia Candiani and Lulú Gómez, who introduced a variety of performers that entertained the audience with music and folkloric dances.
Members of HITN’s Community Affairs team were also present, connecting with the Mexican community during this symbolic celebration and sharing information about the network’s educational and entertainment programming for Spanish-speaking audiences across the country.
