HITN’s Internship Program

HITN is a place where student interns are exposed to a real-world, fast-paced work environment. Here our interns use and develop their technical and professional skills.

HITN strives to cultivate a highly skilled workforce equipped to contribute to the company and the rapidly expanding media industry. Through comprehensive training, talented interns will gain the skills needed to support HITN’s growth and contribute to all areas of the organization, bringing diverse perspectives.

Overview

The internship program will be a per-semester initiative with students working in specific areas of focus: Social Media and Marketing, Government Relations and Community Relationships, Master Control, IT, and Finance. Bilingual (Spanish / English) applicants preferred.

Candidates are detail-focused, communicate well, can handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, work under pressure, and collaborate with others.

Accreditation:

Interns earn $20/hour. HITN and the College will explore options for students to potentially earn course credits. Internships start and end each semester.

Internship Focus Areas

Marketing & Social Media

Interns collaborate on campaigns, research trends, and support projects such as the Tú Cuentas Cine Youth Fest (TCCYF) and the Cortitos National Film Shorts Contest. 

Responsibilities:
  • Help the Marketing team manage social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Influencer marketing), and social campaigns for HITN, including TCCYF.
  • Collaborate with the Creative and Editorial Teams to develop content and edit for published content across social media channels and Live Virtual events.
  • Assist Marketing team in lead generation tactics on projects.
  • Manage & moderate social communities by monitoring comments & mentions on channels and during LIVE events.
  • Develop and grow audience/communities via organic engagement, paid boosting and influencer outreach efforts.
  • Suggest, design, create and manage promotions and social ad campaigns.
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design, and strategy to improve the overall experience.
  • Analyze, review, and report on the effectiveness of daily activities and campaigns to maximize results. Compile reports for management showing results.

Master Control

Interns learn to monitor and maintain the On-Air signal, ensuring continuous transmission at all times, daily programming is ready to air as scheduled, and checks daily programming airs normally.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor on-air presence and technical quality of HITN programming.
  • Monitor Audio Levels across platforms.
  • Monitor Video Streams across platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve on-air issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Interface and communicate with various affiliates and outside service organizations effectively and professionally.
  • Ensure the technical quality of content ingested and recorded.
  • Assist Broadcast Engineer with On-Air testing and Implementation of Applications.

Government Affairs

Interns assist with all department functions, including outreach and engagement efforts with elected officials and community leaders.

Responsibilities:
  • Supporting government affairs projects and community initiatives; event planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Drafting email correspondence and follow up communications.
  • Conducting research on government and community initiatives (to support relationship-building efforts).
  • Tracking engagement efforts and maintaining contact lists.
  • Preparing materials for meetings, presentations, and events.
  • Able to create PowerPoint presentations.
  • Be familiar with the use of Photoshop and Canva.

Government and Community Affairs e-sports

Interns who will help with its Esports program Conduit, in school engagement initiatives and competition management.

Responsibilities:
  • School engagement and competition scheduling.
  • Esports coordination and match reporting (on-site at schools on game days).
  • Digital platform content management and user feedback collection.
  • Event planning.
  • Administrative support and documentation.
  • Skills to apply and reinforce: Event coordination, communication, content management, stakeholder management, Microsoft 365 suite, Photoshop, Keynote, esports.
  • The use of Photoshop and Canva is a plus.

Information Technology

Interns gain hands-on experience in IT support and customer service.

Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshooting Issues: Assisting with resolving common hardware and software issues, such as system crashes, login problems, and application errors.
  • Technical Support: Responding to help desk tickets, phone calls, or emails to help employees with computer and network issues.
  • Hardware Setup and Configuration: Helping set up workstations, installing software, and configuring printers and other devices.
  • Software Installation and Updates: Assisting with the installation of software, patches, and updates across multiple systems.
  • Network Connectivity Support: Helping users with connectivity issues, troubleshooting Wi-Fi, VPN, or Ethernet problems.
  • Documentation: Creating and maintaining knowledge base articles, user manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Escalating Issues: Identifying more complex issues and escalating them to senior technical staff for resolution.
