As part of its ongoing effort to ensure that all children have the tools they need to succeed in the academic year, HITN continued with its school supply donation program benefiting students from families with limited resources.

Canarsie Park, Brooklyn
During the summer break, members of the Government Relations team coordinate support and help organize events to distribute supplies across school districts in New York and Puerto Rico.
Elected officials and community leaders partnered with HITN to make the effort possible, including NYS Senator Roxanne J. Persaud, Puerto Rico Senator Marissa Jiménez, First Lady Olga Font, community leader Shirley Quiñones, and Joel Estrada. Their involvement helped ensure children received the supplies needed to start the school year prepared to succeed.
HITN took part in events in the Canarsie neighborhood of Brooklyn as well as in Yauco and Luquillo, Puerto Rico. There, the organization worked alongside local groups and elected officials to personally hand out school supply kits to students who attended.
In Canarsie, State Senator Roxanne J. Persaud, who represents the 19th District, hosted a Community Fun and Back-to-School Day with support from donors committed to helping children in public schools. The event was held on Tuesday, August 19th, at Canarsie Park on Seaview Avenue in Brooklyn.

Luquillo, Puerto Rico
Meanwhile in Puerto Rico, two events were held: one in Yauco on August 12th and another in Luquillo on August 24th. The Yauco event took place at the Sta. Catalina Housing Complex “Ana Catalina Rodríguez Vélez” and featured community leader Joel Estrada, representing First Lady Olga Font. The Luquillo event was held at the Diego Zalduongo Housing Complex and was attended by Senator Marissa Jiménez alongside community leader Shirley Quiñones.
HITN has a full calendar of similar events scheduled to take place before students return to public schools.
