HITN, in co-production with the renowned public broadcaster PBS, has premiered the documentary series Barcos de Esperanza (Mercy Ships), a program that showcases the humanitarian mission of this one-of-a-kind floating hospital.
Mercy Ships is an international nonprofit organization that operates hospital ships delivering free surgical care and medical training in developing countries, with a special focus on sub-Saharan Africa.
Since its founding in 1978, the organization has performed more than 122,000 surgeries and trained thousands of healthcare professionals, strengthening local health systems and leaving a legacy of improved care in underserved communities.
To accompany the launch of the series, HITN is introducing a volunteer campaign—both on board and remotely—aimed at encouraging viewers to get involved and help support those most in need.
