Brooklyn, NY – HITN announces a special Facebook Live event with Dra. Aliza and a roundtable of health experts who will be joining from across the country to answer questions and concerns from Spanish speaking families during the Coronavirus pandemic. This Facebook LIVE session with Dra. Aliza is part of an on-going series of virtual educational events designed to address the physical, mental and emotional toll experienced by Spanish speaking families during the pandemic.
The event will stream live on Wednesday, April 22 on the Vida y Salud Facebook platform and will be available across the country during the following hours: New York and Miami at 4:00 p.m., Chicago at 3:00 p.m., and in Latin America in Mexico and Lima, Peru at 3:00 p.m., in Caracas, Venezuela at 4: 00 p.m. and Buenos Aires, Argentina at 5:00 p.m.

Dr. Aliza has invited medical and psychological experts, and health and wellness experts to join the virtual conversation and provide educational and valuable insights on areas of mental health, discuss the importance of social and emotional well-being, while providing tips to help families and kids benefit from remote learning and setting daily schedules while at home.

This conversation with the experts will not only answer the questions of our audience, but it will also be a solidary approach to all Spanish-speaking families, to offer answers and practical guidance to all our followers in these times of uncertainty, and fear of the threat of the pandemic of COVID-19 ”, commented Dr. Aliza Lifshitz.

The special will be moderated by Gabriela (Gaby) Quiroga, presenter of the HITN-TV show ‘Vida y Salud’, and accompanied virtually from Los Angeles by Dr. Aliza and an impressive line of panelists that include:

  • Dr. Bernardo NG, Psychiatrist, who is the President of the Mexican and American Psychiatric Association, who will discuss how quarantine affects families and children with special needs.

The discussion will also touch on homeschooling tips with María Gabrielle Guzmán Martínez, an Educational Psychologist. The event will also feature two Latina ‘mommy bloggers’, Paula Zelaya and Caro Mejía, they will share tips for teaching children to play independently and establish a daily routine with children during the quarantine.

The event will also feature Rubén La Rosa, a School Psychologist and Gestalt Psychotherapist, who will talk about fears, anxiety and depression focusing on children between 6 and 12 years old.

The Puerto Rican Cultural Center of Chicago is promoting a campaign aimed at the residents of Paseo Boricua, through its website www.prcc-chgo.org, in which business owners, students, teachers, leaders of our community, among others, send suggestions and solidarity in these times of turbulence and crisis.

The campaign, which is open to the entire community and which anyone can join, consists of video-recording a short message of less than 2 minutes, asking our community to stay home, or providing specific information to a civic sector, such as students, elders, or merchants. HITN is part of their production team, working on the details of the message as well as the production and editing of the videos, in addition to the construction of the webpage.

The CENSUS 2020 is here, and The Puerto Rican Cultural Center is partnering with five community organizations in Humboldt Park, Chicago, to GET OUT THE COUNT. In this effort, HITN designs and produces the website and edits the videos on the home page, which serve as stand-alone PSAs on the organization’s respective social media.

The partners include The Center for Changing Lives, Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation, Chicago Commons, Centro Sin Fronteras, and The Pedro Albizu Campos Puerto Rican High School. Visit the Census webpage at https://prcc- chgo.org/tu-cuentas-2020-census/

Together the partnership is launching a campaign to encourage all residents in Humboldt Park to fill out the Census form at: my2020census.gov. The goal is to reach Hard To Count (HTC) populations and help them count. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, HTCs include; immigrants, children under the age of five, racial minorities, and LGBTQ populations. Because of the coronavirus/COVID 19 crisis, we are concentrating our efforts online. The PRCC website https://prcc- chgo.org/ has a CENSUS 2020 page that will have information, news, social media posts, PSAs, where to get help, and FAQ information.

As well, the Puerto Rican Cultural Center is collaborating with the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) to conduct outreach and education among the Hardest to Count Populations in the Humboldt Park – West Town Community. The PRCC is the Regional Intermediary (RI) and is partnering with five organizations/sub-recipients to support the State of Illinois’s 2020 Census “Get Out the Count” campaign. This program will continue until the end of June 2020. In addition, the PRCC is partnering with local elected officials to ensure our community gets counted in the 2020 Census. The Latino community for decades has been undercounted in the U.S. Census. State Senator Omar Aquino shared with us that “The threat of being undercounted will be more serious this year due to the tactics of the current administration. As a unified community, Latinos need to take a stand to ensure we receive the valuable resources our communities receive as a result of the census count. Please take the time to properly fill out the Census so that our community’s voice will not be counted out.

Census data also guides the allocation of more than $800 billion in federal funding to programs that are crucial to the well-being of families and communities. We only get one chance every ten years at achieving a full count – this data will inform important policy decisions and determine federal funding allocations for a decade. U.S. Congressman Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, said Latinos “have the most to win and the most to lose. I’m talking about resources; it’s also known as money or funding. I’m talking about power. The ability to influence policy from Washington D.C. to the state legislature to City Hall.” State Representative Delia Ramirez shared that “As we face this public health crisis, participating in the Census now helps secure future funding for our communities. Crises like the COVID-19 are exactly why the government needs truthful, accurate, and precise Census data.” Self-responding to the Census is the easiest way to make sure you are counted amid the COVID-19 situation”.

Many places of worship across the US are preparing for Holy Week and finding alternate ways to offer religious services to their parishioners during the COVID-19 outbreak. HITN (Hispanic Information Telecommunications Network) and NET- TV (New Evangelization Television), the premier Catholic network, are partnering together to bring “SEMANA SANTA EN TU CASA” (“Holy Week at home”), a series of live streamed services to help homebound parishioners and their families celebrate Good Friday and EasterSunday together as a community.

In the face of school closings due to the threat of COVID-19, the bilingual App for preschoolers is featured as part of the White House and SIIA new website with educational resources for virtual learning, supporting educators and families during the quarantine.

Brooklyn, NYHITN Learning, a division of HITN, announced today that its Cleo & Cuquin: Explore + Learn app, the result of a government-funded project, and inspired by the popular series on YouTube and Netflix, has been included in the initial list of official resources prepared by the Software & Information Industry Association’s Education’s Technology Industry Network (SIIA / ETIN) and the White House, in a new website called Tech for Learners. The site, will support educators, and families who are quarantined at home by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Facing the unprecedented challenge of a global pandemic, which has caused the closure of most schools, parents, educators, and the community at large need to be able to count on reliable educational tools and solutions that will make the transition to virtual learning feasible and effective,” said David Rust, General Manager of HITN Learning and added, “Preschool presents special challenges for remote learning.
