Social Good Leader - Tu Momento 2016

HITN Wins Award Social Good Leader of The Year

By HITN

Brooklyn, NY – HITN, a non-profit organization with a Spanish-language media network that provides educational and entertainment programming to more than 44 million households in the United States, was awarded Cynopsis Media’s Social Good Leader award for its innovative Tu Momento 2016 campaign.

A Social Good Leader

Tu Momento 2016 (Your Moment 2016) was an educational and informational campaign designed and produced by HITN to help Hispanics across the country better understand the U.S. presidential election process. The campaign, launched April 2016, released a new educational video every few months that coincided with the ongoing events of the presidential election that took place last year. Tu Momento addressed questions like: What is a political convention? Who are super delegates? How does the Electoral College work? By using a combination of short vignettes designed with info-graphics, along with carefully crafted explanations, HITN took complicated subject matter and successfully communicated to its viewers the importance of better understanding the details of the presidential electoral process.

“What an honor to win this award and to be named the Social Good Leader of the year,” says Guillermo Sierra, Head of Television at HITN. “Everyday, we continue to strive to do good work at HITN and it is our responsibility to deliver content to its audience so more Hispanics and Latinos understand that, as Americans, we too should have a voice.”

The Tu Momento 2016 campaign took a life of its own when as an added incentive to ensure that HITN Hispanic viewers did the research that Tu Momento 2016 encouraged, HITN created the Vive Tu Momento Contest (Live Your Moment). This contest was not a game of luck, but rather a test of knowledge. Participants were challenged to utilize their grasp of the presidential election and their understanding of the Electoral College to present an analysis of how each state would vote on election night. The winner of this contest would win a historic three-day, all-inclusive trip to experience the 2017 Presidential Inauguration.

HITN’s winner, who actually voted for the first time this year, proved to be even more politically astute than most experienced political consultants. She correctly predicted how 46 states would vote; attributed her success to the Tu Momento campaign. It was her commitment to a thorough search and a sound analysis that had earned this intelligent and diligent Latina a trip to Washington, D.C. for the 2017 Presidential Inauguration.

HITN is more than pleased, we are overwhelmed to be recognized for our groundbreaking series on educating Hispanics about the election process,” says Gerson Borrero, host of HITN’s Tu Momento 2016. “Tu Momento 2016 was our first production toward offering this kind of programming, and HITN will continue to create content that serves the interest of our audience.”

Coat drive

HITN, Brooklyn Navy Yard Host Annual Coat Drive

By COMMUNITY

Businesses in Downtown Brooklyn Work to Keep New Yorkers Warm this Winter with annual coat drive.

Brooklyn, NY – HITN, the Spanish-language media company that delivers educational programming to more than 44 million homes nationwide has again partnered with New York Cares to host its second annual coat drive. Over the last 25 years, New York Cares has donated approximately 1.6 million coats to New Yorkers in need. And with temperatures already reaching 20 degrees, HITN recruited the Brooklyn Navy Yard (BNY) and local businesses within the navy yard in order to help New York Cares reach its goal of collecting 200,000 coats.

“We are very happy that we were able to provide coats for many of our fellow New Yorkers who need them. It is extremely comforting to know that we have helped prepare those in need to weather the cold during the upcoming months,” said Valerie D. White, Vice President External Affairs, Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation.

In addition to the BNY, two other important contributors to the coat drive were Duggal, a leading supplier of printing and graphic display services and New Lab, a community of hardware-centric designers and engineers working on emerging technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence.

“So many of our New Yorker’s need help. We often store coats in our closets that we know we won’t ever use again and what better way than donating it to someone who will appreciate it,” says Heather Griffin, Director of Marketing for Duggal.

“New Lab is proud to be part of this strong Brooklyn Navy Yard community. By coming together to help the New York Cares Coat Drive initiative for the greater community of which we’re all a part of, is very important to us,” says Meetra Javid, Member Agent of New Lab.

“I’m thrilled we collected a record-breaking number of coats this holiday season. This can only be attributed to our collaboration with the Brooklyn Navy Yard and our neighbors within the navy yard,” says Mike Nieves, CEO of HITN. “In this season of giving, we must aim to continue helping our fellow New Yorkers and we look forward to recruiting more partners next year in order to double the number of coats we collect.”

Vive tu momento contest

HITN-TV Announces “Vive Tu Momento” Contest Winner

By TV & DIGITAL

Vive Tu Momento Contest Winner

Grand Prize is a trip for two to 2017 Presidential Inauguration

Brooklyn, NY HITN-TV, the leading Spanish-language network that delivers educational and entertaining programming to over 42 million households across the country, announced Mrs. Leticia Parra Ibarra from Waukegan, Illinois as the winner of its national Vive Tu Momento (Live Your Moment) contest. Mrs. Ibarra and her husband will attend the 2017 presidential inauguration on a 3-day trip to Washington, D.C. in January.

The contest was not a game of luck, but rather a test of knowledge since participants were challenged to utilize their grasp of the presidential election and their understanding of the Electoral College to predict which states each presidential candidate would win on Election Day. HITN-TV carefully examined hundreds of entries and in the end found one contestant to be the most politically astute: Mrs. Leticia Ibarra became the contest winner after being the first to accurately predict the voting results for 46 states.

The Vive Tu Momento contest was the final component of HITN-TV’s Tu Momento 2016 campaign, a national educational campaign aimed at educating U.S. Hispanics on the presidential election process and at increasing the Hispanic voter turnout rate.

Born in Michoacán, Mexico, the politically astute, 33-year-old Mrs. Ibarra works for a tech company in Chicago, where she lives with her husband, who together had been following the developments of the presidential election through HITN-TV’s Tu Momento 2016 segments.

Mrs. Ibarra’s interest in politics began after she and her equally-astute husband began the tradition of debating U.S. and Mexican politics during dinner. “When we started following the (2016) presidential election, I thought it might be fun to test my knowledge, but I did not think I would win [the contest],” Mrs. Ibarra said of her win.

Mrs. Ibarra’s contest win is a true testament to her inquisitive nature, as the Vive Tu Momento contest encourages participants to do their research on each state as they complete the Vive Tu Momento contest form. It was her commitment to a thorough search and a sound analysis that has earned this intelligent and diligent Latina a trip to Washington, D.C. next month.

I’m proud and I feel so blessed to go to Washington, D.C. with my husband. I would never have been given this privilege if I didn’t take a chance and do the work.

This year marks two milestones for our grand winner, as it will be the first time Mrs. Ibarra has exercised her right to vote and she will, for the first time, take a trip with her husband.
